Zim boxers hungry for success

One female boxer Fortunate Chidziwo from Harare and five male boxers Steven Masiyambumbi, Brighton Masiyambumbi and Milton Moyo from Bulawayo, the Zimbabwe National Army’s Beaven Nyamondera and Kudzanai Huni who is based in the United Kingdom are representing the country.

The other female boxer Kudzanai Tavengwa from Masvingo and two male boxers, Ibrahim Magare and Elaston Chiweshe from Hwange could not travel due to lack of funds.

Speaking before departure the Zimbabwe Amateur Boxing Association (Zaba) technical director Petros Masiyambumbi said the best boxers were representing the country.

“We were supposed to take eight boxers to Botswana but we could not get enough funds.

“The team is, as a result, smaller than we would have loved and this may have an impact on performance but I have faith in the quality of boxers we are travelling with. I am confident we will bring home some medals,” Masiyambumbi said.

He said the pugilists were hungry for success and were therefore raring to go.
