Organisation and work already in progress is testimony to that, Vice President Joice Mujuru said yesterday.
In an interview after touring tourism facilities and new construction projects in the resort town yesterday afternoon VP Mujuru said she was impressed by work done so far.
“I personally had reservations about our capability and the work being done. You know what happens when you are in an office in Harare there and you are being told about these things.
“But after these guys insisted VP let us go and you see for yourself, I came here and I am impressed by the tremendous work in progress. I can safely say we are ready.
“Zimbabwe is at it. We are ready. I can tell the international community that we are ready,’’ she said.
Among the projects under work are the expansion and refurbishment of Victoria Falls International Airport, the refurbishment of the Victoria Falls District Hospital and the expansion of the Victoria Falls safari Lodge.
Asked about the construction of the new multi-million dollar Victoria Falls Convention Centre, she said Zimbabwe had the capacity to put in place everything within the next nine months.
“The companies we are engaging are not the samanyangas or mhukahuru’s that you know pushing one wheelbarrow. These are huge construction companies that can easily do the job. As I said, we are ready, ever ready.”
VP Mujuru accompanied by Tourism and Hospitality Industry Minister Walter Mzembi, senior Government officials and tourism industry stakeholders toured the Victoria Falls Bridge, the Victoria Falls Hotel, Victoria Falls Lodge and A’Zambezi River Lodge.
She is expected to officially open the African Travel Association Congress today.
