THE Minister of Sport, Arts and Culture Cde Andrew Langa on Thursday signed an exchange agreement with Chinese Culture Minister Cai Wu, that will see increased Sino-Zimbabwe cooperation in the fields of arts, culture, publication, radio, film, television and sports.
The three-year exchange programme signed at Grand Hotel in Beijing, China, is in accordance with the cultural agreement signed between China and Zimbabwe on May 14, 1981 in Beijing.

Speaking after the signing ceremony National Arts Council of Zimbabwe deputy director Nicholas Moyo, who is part of the delegation in China, said the agreement should benefit all of Zimbabwe’s provinces.

“The minister said Zimbabwe has 10 provinces, and through this signing, we implore ourselves to explore avenues of making all of Zimbabwe part of this agreement,” said Moyo.

He said it was the view of the ministers that cultural understanding between Zimbabwe and China would allow for greater understanding in matters of business.
“The two ministers talked about the earlier visit by President Mugabe to the Asian country and were in agreement that culture is central in cementing the other projects and programmes to be implemented in Zimbabwe,” he said.

According to the agreement in arts and culture both countries will periodically facilitate cultural exchange trips for a government delegation (ministry policy makers and senior arts and culture programme administrators and managers) of four to six persons.

It was agreed that both countries would send a performing art troupe not exceeding 20 persons to visit and perform in either country for 10 days as often as posiible.
In sports, Zimbabwe and China shall encourage the strengthening of exchange programmes and cooperation.
