Zim, China sign geo-spatial MoU

Herald Reporter

China’s Ministry of Natural Resources (MNR), through Land Satellite Remote Sensing Application Centre (LASAC), has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on cooperation in satellite images application with the Zimbabwe National Geospatial and Space Agency (ZINGSA).

The agreement is backed by the Department of International Cooperation, MNR and the embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Zimbabwe.

The MoU says both sides will co-develop the China-Zimbabwe Satellite Remote-Sensing Application Cooperation Centre and share the Natural Resources Satellite Remote Sensing Cloud Service Platform to enhance Zimbabwe’s satellite application service capabilities in fields of natural resources management, national spatial planning, surveying and mapping, ecological rehabilitation, agriculture, forestry, disaster prevention and mitigation, so as to promote the resource efficiency and high quality economic development of Zimbabwe, and write a new chapter of China-Africa cooperation.

Over the past year, LASAC reached consensus in co-building satellite remote sensing application cooperation centres with more than 10 African countries, including Zimbabwe.

China-Africa satellite remote sensing application cooperation has gained ever-rising influence.

ZINGSA acting director general Mr Pianos Gweme signed on behalf of ZINGSA, while Mr Wang Quan director general for LASAC signed on behalf of his organisation.
