Zim, China urged to expand bilateral ties

Vice President John Nkomo said yesterday.

He said the two countries should take advantage of their excellent relations to spur their economies.
The VP was speaking at a meeting with a Chinese business delegation led by Lu Hao, a Senior Adviser of Gansu Province in China.

“We need to come up with programmes that advance our relations. In Zimbabwe there are areas of great potential such as construction, mining and agriculture,” he said.
The Chinese delegation invited the VP to an international trade fair in their province next month.

Mr Lu’s firm, Hua Long, built the National Sports Stadium and Chinhoyi Hospital. “Now we look forward for more support for the development and deepening of our relations. We also encourage other companies to have business trips to China and enhance co-operation,” said Mr Lu.

VP Nkomo also met Greek ambassador Mr Christos Salamanis and Netherlands Ambassador Mrs Barbara Joziasse.
Mr Salamanis said they discussed bilateral issues between the two countries. He said he hoped for enhanced economic ties with Harare but indicated that as a member of the European Union they go along with the decision to impose sanctions against Zimbabwe.

“We are members of the EU and we follow its policy guidelines,” he said.
Mrs Joziasse said their discussion centred on bilateral relations.
