ZIMBABWE opened the Consulate Building in Johannesburg, South Africa and launched the e-passport Biometric Enrollment Centre.
In a Post Cabinet Briefing, the Minister of Information Publicity and Broadcasting Services Dr Jenfan Muswere said the centre was opened on 25 July 2024 in the neighbouring country.
“The Consulate Building in Johannesburg was officially handed over to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Trade on 25th July, 2024.
The handover marks a significant milestone of the Second Republic’s drive to bring Government services close to the people under a decent environment. The handover further demonstrates that Government is mindful of the needs of the diaspora community who equally deserve the convenience that is enjoyed by those in Zimbabwe,” said Dr Muswere.
He said the e-Passport Biometric Enrolment Centre was launched on 25th July, 2024 by the symbolic giving of the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Trade a replica of the e-passport.
Zimbabweans in South Africa can now apply for their e-passports while they are in South Africa with plans in the pipeline to open other centers in the United Kingdom, United Arab Emirates and the United States.
Staff that will man these offices has been trained and is ready to serve.
Locally, various e-passport centres have been opened including Lupane, Guruve, Mazoe, Murehwa, Chitungwiza, Harare, and Bulawayo to allow the smooth issuance of the documents.
