GWERU-BASED Zimdancehall exponent, Norman “Giantau Int” Marodza, says chanters can still make a breakthrough by singing clean, meaningful lyrics.

The 38-year-old, who is also a farmer, urged fellow musicians to find side hustles as well.

In an interview with the Zimpapers Arts and Entertainment Hub, Marodza said he has a special calling to make a difference in Zimdancehall.

“I know Zimdancehall is associated with explicit lyrics, but I think we can still do better and make a breakthrough with mature content that can be listened to at household level,” Marodza said.

“In my case, I have been in the game experimenting with various genres until I settled for Zimdancehall.

“I might appear to be a nonentity but I am very popular in Gweru.

“I love my hometown and I would want to lead by example.”

He also challenged fellow artists to respect the sanctity of marriage.

“In a normal society, marriage is known to bring sanity and blessings in one’s career, and that is why I believe all chanters must be settled to achieve their goals.

“I recently tied the knot with my longtime sweetheart and mother of five, Mavis Masocha, who has been supportive over the years.

“A decent marriage is every chanter’s catalyst—they need it to progress and shine.”

Some of his tracks, which have endeared him to fans, include “I’m a Winner”, “Vana VeZimbabwe”, “Magamba”, and “Marangwanda.”

“I might not be a household name at the moment but I always make sure that I do my things in a professional manner.

“I joined ZIMURA and it has always been my wish to make sure that I formalise my operations.

“I don’t want to be the kind of artist who does his business haphazardly.”

Originally from Goromonzi, Marodza believes he has managed to make an impression because of discipline.

“I was groomed to be a fine young man and a law-abiding citizen at a tender age, which shaped me into the man I am.

“I have reached a point in life where I cannot shun the way I was raised.”
