ZIMBABWEAN driver Rayhaan Maganezi will once again come under the South African motor racing spotlight when he competes in Round 3 of the Vilaca Racing Time Attack Championship at Red Star Raceway in Delmas, South Africa, today.

Time Attack is a non-wheel to wheel racing event series which takes place on various race tracks in South Africa.

Drivers compete against the clock to see which car and driver is the fastest combination on the day.

And following a high-profile Round 2 at the Kyalami Grand Prix Circuit during the Festival of Motoring in August, Round 3 scales back to a pure, driver-and-clock format.

Competitors will focus strictly on precision, pacing, and setting the fastest single timed laps around Red Star Raceway.

And South Africa-based Zimbabwean driver Maganezi has promised to come out with all guns blazing in today’s event.

He is slowly making a name for himself in the tough world of motor racing in South Africa.

Maganezi is competing in the Street FWD Class and he goes into today’s race meeting sitting in third place overall in the championship.

The 27-year-old Zimbabwean driver has so far amassed 39 points and is sitting in third place behind Marcel Trutter (50 points) and Ashraf Soomba (40 points).

Ettienne Barnard is occupying fourth place with 34 points.

And speaking to Zimpapers Sports Hub yesterday, Maganezi said he was aiming for the top step on the podium at the business end of today’s event.

“I’m sitting 3rd overall in the championship and as you can see in the Street FWD Class the competition is pretty tight if you look from 2nd to 4th place.

“We’ve had a bit of time for rest and race preparation on the cars since Kyalami in August. Since this will be our second time at Red Star this year, the competition is expected to be very tight as most drivers are not in the learning phase ,but rather focusing on refinement and bringing out their best of themselves and their vehicles . . . I know it’s going to be very competitive in all classes!”

Maganezi will today join drivers from across South Africa who will take on Red Star Raceway, pushing their machines to the limit and fighting for first place!

“This is not typical wheel-to-wheel racing. This is you vs the clock.

“From street cars to full race builds, novice drivers to experienced competitors — if you think you and your car have what it takes, this is where it begins,” Maganezi said.

He is the son of former motor rally driver, Robson Maganezi, who grew up in Bindura here in Zimbabwe before he relocated to South Africa.

Time Attack racing fans are also expecting a full day of serious machinery, fast lap times, drifting, endurance racing and passenger ride experiences.

Meanwhile, back home in Zimbabwe, the country’s top motor racing drivers will converge at Bulawayo Motorsport Park today for the Peter Parnell Race Day & John Love Memorial Race Day.

This “double header” is the latest round of the main circuit racing’s National Championship series featuring most of the country’s top motor racing drivers and motorbike riders.

By Wednesday, a good field of 16 cars had already confirmed their participation in today’s event.

They will be led by Harare drivers Jim and Hamish Perry and Onismo Mhute, who will be behind the wheels of a Toyota RunX.
