A NEW Zimbabwe is emerging strong, united and determined to take its rightful place on the global stage, Zimbabwe’s Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) David Sigauke, has said.

Speaking at the belated celebration of Zimbabwe’s 45th independence anniversary in Kinshasa on May 3, Ambassador Sigauke said great strides had been made towards transformation and economic revival.

“Under the leadership of President Mnangagwa, Zimbabwe is transitioning from recovery to growth,” he said.

“Our people have endured sanctions and setbacks, yet today we stand proud, investing in infrastructure, modernising key sectors like agriculture and mining, and fostering innovation across all levels of society.”

Amb Sigauke said Zimbabwe’s development was not only confined to urban centres, but throughout the country.

“We are decentralising power and resources to ensure that no province, no community is left behind,” he said.

“Roads, schools, dams and clinics are taking shape across the country to improve everyday life for our citizens.”

Amb Sigauke said Zimbabwe and DRC enjoyed strong bilateral ties rooted in shared history and strengthened by mutual aspirations.

“This celebration is not just about Zimbabwe; it is about African solidarity. The DRC has stood with us, and we continue to walk together toward a future of prosperity and peace,” he said.

A message from President Mnangagwa echoed these sentiments, calling on Zimbabweans at home and abroad to unite for national progress.

The ceremony featured cultural performances and the symbolic sharing of a ceremonial gift — an act of unity that reflected the shared triumphs of Zimbabwe and its regional allies.

“We are not just commemorating independence — we are redefining it,” said Amb Sigauke.

“The future belongs to a Zimbabwe that believes in itself, builds together, and dares to lead.”
