THE Zimbabwe Soccer Legends Trust are expected to host South Africa Soccer Legends today at Rufaro Stadium in a fundraising match where they seek to raise money to help some of the yesteryear stars and their families. The death of former South African president and anti-apartheid icon, Nelson Mandela, has cast a shadow on the big match. The former South African stars flew out of Johannesburg last night for this assignment.

Some of the stars expected to play in the game include Mark Fish, Lucas Radebe, Brian Baloyi and Jerry “Legs of Thunder” Skhosana. Radebe and Fish were part of the Bafana team that won the Africa Cup of Nations in 1996.

The match was initially set for July this year only to be postponed after the Legends Association failed to raise funds for airfares and match appearance for their South African counterparts.

Yesterday, Zimbabwe Soccer Legends Association chairman, Stanford “Stix” Mtizwa, said all was now set for their fundraising match.
“We want people to come in their numbers as we seek to raise a substantial amount and help some of our members who are struggling to make ends meet and some who have left orphans.

“It would be a good environment and atmosphere as people celebrate football and go down memory lane.   And we are just encouraging all the soccer lovers to come and support this worthy cause,” said Mtizwa.

Mtizwa said this was the first initiative his association and they were planning to have different projects to raise funds for the former football stars.

Former CAPS United and Black Rhinos superstar, M’tizwa, is the interim chairman of the Zimbabwe Football Legends Trust while DeMbare legend Ernest Kamba is the deputy chairman.
