Some parts of the country received showers yesterday amid indications that cloudy conditions and isolated showers are expected over Manicaland and Mashonaland East today.
Yesterday, Harare Metropolitan, Marondera and areas in the eastern parts of Zimbabwe received showers.
In Zimbabwe, winter period usually starts from May 1 up to September 30 every year.
The Meteorological Services Department (MSD) said sunny conditions are today expected in Harare Metropolitan, Bulawayo Metropolitan, Matabeleland south, Mashonaland East and West, Masvingo and Midlands.
“It should be cold in the morning becoming warm during the day. However, cold again towards the evening. Slight ground frost is most likely over Henderson, Gweru and Matopos,” said the MSD a weather update. “Temperature fluctuations between night and day may affect the health of all persons. However, persons of an ill disposition, the elderly, young children tend to be more vulnerable. Respiratory related ailments such as asthma, hay fever, colds and flu tend to be common during this period due to cold mornings and evenings.
“Cold weather negatively affects poultry and light rain may affect crops that are at harvest stage,” said the MSD.
The public has been advised to keep warm, while poultry producers should note that broilers are sensitive to temperature variations and therefore need to be checked regularly and adjustments made.
