Zim group takes gospel across Limpopo

Kuyosulwa is a popular Christian hymn that talks about heaven, a place that does not have any sorrow and where tears would be wiped away when people get there. The group is part of Twelve Apostles Church of Christ based in Yeoville, South Africa.

In an interview recently the group’s leader Promise Mhlanga, who was born in Nkulumane, said the group was formed last year and has five members.

He said the album was about the trials that people face and how they overcome them.

“The album is about people and the struggles they face. It is about how God, through his amazing grace, makes us overcome the struggles we face if we have faith in him,” said Mhlanga.

He said their album was premised on Revelation chapter 21 where the Bible talks about peace, love and the promises God made to his people.

“Verses one to four state: ‘Now I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away. Also there was no more sea. Then I, John, saw the holy city, New Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. And I heard a loud voice from heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and He will dwell with them, and they shall be His people. God Himself will be with them and be their God. And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away’,” said Mhlanga.

His colleague, Caroline Ncube, said they had done shows with their mentor, Derrick Nzimande, who taught them a lot in terms of gospel music.

She said in September the group would do a show with gospel masgandi artiste Bonakele.

“The show will be at Hillbrow theatre and will also feature people like Quiet Ncube and the Nation. We released the album in April in South Africa so we are home to also make people aware of the album,” said Ncube.

She said a music video will be out by the end of the year for one of the songs and the group was also working on a second album.

Other songs on the album include Mpilo Engapheliyo, Ikhon’ Indawo, Baba Somandla, Ngihlangabeze, Malibongwe Igama lakho, UJesu Ngimthembe, Ndodana KaDavida and two instrumentals Baba Somandla and Elakho Igama.

The album was recorded at Nation Studios.
