Zim Handball Federation sets date for elections

FOLLOWING pressure from the Sports and Recreation Commission, the Zimbabwe Handball Federation (ZHF) has set 29 August as the tentative date for elections for a substantive committee.

ZHF has been administered by an interim committee since 2008 and according to the association’s constitution the term of the outgoing executive expired last March.

Initially ZHF was scheduled to hold elections during their annual general meeting held in Kariba on 31 March, but the polls failed to materialise as some provinces together with the treasurer, Jameson Shumbanhete, who was expected to present the financial report failed to turn up.

In a telephone interview on Friday, ZHF secretary-general Alphios Magiya confirmed that the federation had received a directive from SRC to hold elections, and that that they had already notified the membership of the supreme sports body’s order.
