Fresh from their triumph on home soil in the series against Kenya, Titan Law Zimbabwe side powered into the final of the Cell C Inanda Africa Cup 2019 Polo tournament in Sandton, South Africa yesterday.
The Zimbabweans, 2-1 series winners over Kenya at Thorn Park grounds, outside Harare last weekend, once again proved too strong for Ghana and Angola whom they beat to book their place into today’s final against South African side Kego Mining.
They beat a strong Angolan side 10-5 to stay in the hunt to win the Africa Cup they last won in 2017.
Zimbabwe were runners-up last year.
In yesterday’s matches captain Gareth Meikle, a 3-goal player led from the front in a team that also included Smart Kuusawa (2goal), 16-year-old Nathan Stockil and Maison Lombard (0).
Today’s encounter with the South Africans will mark Umzari Polo Club player Meikle’s third appearance in the Africa Cup final while for Kuusawa, the veteran of the team at 29 years, it would be the fourth occasion to feature in the competition.
It will also be a debut appearance in the Africa Cup final for the 17-year-old Lombard who plays off goals and will be completing his O’ Levels this year.
