As part of efforts to enhance cultural ties, students from Blessed Hope Gaza Academy and Mountain Bay School visited the Iranian Embassy’s Cultural Centre last Friday.
The initiative aims to foster a deeper understanding and appreciation of Iranian culture among Zimbabwean youths.
The event underscored the importance of cultural diplomacy in promoting peace and education.
Cultural Counsellor of the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Mr Hamid Bakhtiyar, highlighted the value of cultural exchanges, reflecting on the friendly relations between the two nations.
“This event helps us with cultural exchanges between Iran and Zimbabwe.
“We have a very good and friendly relationship between our governments, but unfortunately, the people of both countries lack sufficient information about each other’s cultures and traditions,” said Mr Bakhtiyar.
He elaborated on Iran’s social life, heritage, history and educational opportunities, encouraging students to explore Iranian culture and consider scholarships to study in Iran.
“We explained the educational opportunities and scholarships available in Iran, as well as international festivals and exhibitions that we host. “We can facilitate those interested in continuing their education in Iran,” he added.
Executive director of Blessed Hope Gaza Academy, Dr Norbert Hosho, expressed gratitude for the opportunity provided to the students.
“We are dedicated to teaching our learners the importance of peace, understanding, and compassion.
“Our school was founded to honour the memory of Palestinian children who lost their lives, and we strive to inspire our learners to become empathetic and responsible global citizens,” he said.
The principal of Mountain Bay School, Mr Boas Foroma, also praised the initiative.
“We appreciate the Cultural Centre’s efforts in organising visits that broaden our learners’ horizons and enrich their educational experiences.
“Exposure to different cultures is essential for developing well-rounded individuals who can contribute positively to society,” he said.
During the visit, learners engaged in discussions and asked questions about Iranian customs and traditions.
They expressed gratitude for the warm hospitality from the embassy staff and left with a deeper understanding of Iran’s cultural heritage.
