ZIMBABWE and Iran have committed to enhancing defence and security cooperation to strengthen their bilateral relations.
This agreement was formalised at a signing ceremony in Tehran, Iran, where Zimbabwe’s Defence Minister Oppah Muchinguri Kashiri met with her Iranian counterpart, Brigadier-General Aziz Nasirzadeh.
In her address following the signing ceremony, Minister Muchinguri-Kashiri emphasised the importance of this milestone in the history of relations between the two nations.
“It is with great honour and profound pleasure that today we celebrate yet another milestone in the history of our revolutionary bilateral relations, marked by the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding on Defence and Security.”
She highlighted the commitment of both countries to foster peace, stability, and mutual prosperity through enhanced cooperation, describing the occasion as a “win-win situation.”
Minister Muchinguri-Kashiri noted that Zimbabwe and Iran have long enjoyed cordial relations based on mutual respect and revolutionary values.
“Today, we take a significant step forward in deepening this partnership by finalising our cooperation in critical areas of defence and security,” she affirmed.
Areas of cooperation and understanding, under the MoU include aviation industries, including aircraft, helicopters and drones, electronic industries, telecommunications, radar, cyber and electronic warfare.
In her closing remarks, Minister Muchinguri-Kashiri expressed gratitude for Iran’s steadfast friendship and reiterated Zimbabwe’s commitment to turning the MoU into tangible outcomes.
“Together in unity, we shall thrive and conquer,” she said, emphasising the potential to transform threats into opportunities through collaboration.
This agreement marks a new chapter in the relationship between Zimbabwe and Iran, reinforcing the two countries’ dedication to common goals in defence and security.
