Iran has pledged to continue to explore new areas of cooperation with Zimbabwe to deepen economic and trade relations between the two countries, the country’s ambassador to Zimbabwe, Mr Ahmad Erfanian, has said.
He was speaking during celebrations to mark his country’s National Day and 40th anniversary of the Islamic revolution of the Republic of Iran in Harare yesterday.
The celebrations were attended by senior Government officials and diplomats from various countries.
Ambassador Erfanian said Iran was ready to strengthen existing relations with Zimbabwe in all fields of mutual interest.
“Iran and Zimbabwe have always enjoyed cordial relations dating back to the time of the liberation struggle.
“Iran is ready to strengthen existing relations with Zimbabwe. Our major focus is on deepening of economic and trade relations. We welcome the mantra ‘Zimbabwe is open for business’ in the new dispensation initiated by His Excellency, President Emmerson Mnangagwa. We need to further re-invigorate our efforts at all levels,” he said.
Foreign Affairs and International Trade director Ambassador Chitsaka Chipaziwa expressed gratitude to Iran for the technical co-operation and efforts in promoting private sector investment in Zimbabwe.
“For us the resuscitation of our economy is paramount and private sector participation from your country will go a long way in achieving that goal.
“As His Excellency President Mnangagwa, has clearly pronounced since the beginning of his tenure as the President of the Republic of Zimbabwe, Zimbabwe is open for business and we invite friends from Iran to take advantage of this opportunity,” Ambassador Chipaziwa said.
