THE Zimbabwe Ladies Chess Association (ZLCA) will hold a national chess workshop at Royal Harare on November 21. The event will be the first of its kind and several chess enthusiasts are expected for the programme that will be conducted by experts.
After struggling to register with the Sports Commission since 2011, the affiliated association will now focus on promoting the sport from grassroots level.
Bridget Pumuyo, the ZLCA president, said they are looking forward to a successful workshop.
“Our aim is to spread the sport from grassroots levels and attract as many players especially the girl child. We will focus on several aspects of the game like tricks and tactics, international trends, playing, coaching as well as arbitrating chess.
“By starting from the grassroots we will have a strong team that can represent the country which is something which we lacked in the past,” said Pumuyo.
The event will see interested players parting with $100 for the workshop.
The association is targeting players as well as school chess coaches and every participant will receive a certificate.
This will be a good build-up towards Zimbabwe Chess Open tournament to be held in December.
