MORE than 30 graduates of Russian universities in Zimbabwe have formed the League of Russian University Alumni, with the group expected to bolster cultural, academic and business links between the two countries.
The league was launched in Harare on Saturday during commemorations to mark Russian National Flag Day.
The event was organised by the Globus expert club and attended by Zimbabweans who received higher education in various Russian cities.
Organisers said the new body will serve to maintain ties among former students and promote further humanitarian and business cooperation between the two countries.
The gathering was held in a cordial atmosphere, with alumni sharing memories of their student years in Russia and discussing their professional journeys since returning home.
In remarks at the event, Mr Alexander Chinaryov of the Globus association said the alumni represent a key link between the two nations.
“We know very well that many of you studied in Russia or the Soviet Union, speak Russian, remember our songs, our holidays, and our traditions. For us, you are more than just partners. You are the living threads that bind our countries together. Believe me, we are deeply honoured that our visit began with a meeting with you,” Mr Chinaryov said.
The celebrations ended with the presentation of commemorative gifts from Russia to all attendees.
