Zim music awards are back!

Launching the awards, Joseph Nyadzayo, the chairman of Zima, said this year’s awards would be rated among the best in the world.
“We have been having consultations with different stakeholders so that we can have the best event. It is about rebranding the show, celebrating the excellence of music in the country,” he said.
Nyadzayo said the show had been put on ice for the last few years because of financial problems but now they had rebranded the awards.
Nyadzayo also said Zima awards were a celebration of the works done by artistes.
“Our aim is to give artistes due recognition for their efforts and to encourage them to continue working hard,” Nyadzayo said.
He urged the media to play a pivotal role in promoting the artistes and their music.
“It begins with you (media) for these musicians to be celebrities. Through your writing you honour them and by this you are giving them platform and correcting what is wrong in them,” he explained.
Nhamo Tutisani, the chief executive officer of Zima, said the aim was to support the arts industry since it was one of the biggest employers in Zimbabwe.
“Zima wants to support the artistes so that they can be able to sustain their careers and also become a role models in the society,” he said.
Previous winners of the awards include Tongai Moyo, Alick Macheso, MacDonald “Macdee” Chidavaenzi, Africa Revenge, Oliver Mtukudzi and the late Leonard Dembo.
