Zim must denounce mischievous, premeditated election observer reports

Herald Correspondent

The most important issue to bear in mind is the fact that Zimbabwe’s economy is on a significant rebound.

That it is on a growth trajectory is indisputable.

This fact shuts the door to Zimbabwe’s detractors who imposed sanctions on Zimbabwe hoping to achieve regime change.

The positive economic developments in Zimbabwe mean that its detractors can no longer wield sanctions as an instrument for politically conditioning the behaviour of a revolutionary Government in Zimbabwe.

This state of affairs is not acceptable to them, in particular, given the vast natural resources endowment of Zimbabwe. The regime change cohort of former Western colonial powers cannot afford to see Zimbabwe slip through their fingers as it seals its sovereign decision to engage firmly with the likes of Russia and China.

Among other economic interests in Zimbabwe, the US is desperately looking for critical strategic minerals (lithium, cobalt, among others) to aid the transition of its economy to a green economy.

Zimbabwe has such minerals in abundance. In this context, it is the aim of Western powers to dislodge China as an influential power in Zimbabwe.

But to achieve that end, it is evident that in their view, they can never succeed as long as Zimbabwe is governed by a political party that waged a war of liberation against the very Western powers. Therefore, the US and its allies will do anything to see to it that Zimbabwe is not led by ZANU PF.

As long as the regime change agenda remains on the table, there will be no end to election mischief by the opposition in Zimbabwe working with the West and any willing collaborators around the world, the SADC region included (election observers).

Zimbabwe should stand firm in denouncing all machinations to achieve the strategic objectives of the sanctions (regime change) through the back door (election manipulation).

After all, Zimbabwe is under sanctions and the last thing it should do is to give in to coercive pushes for it to accommodate the opposition in some form of so-called unity or power sharing government. The utterances by Chamisa, that he will not accept any election result that does not declare him a winner, are not being criticised by the observers as potentially damaging to an otherwise peaceful election environment.

Why is that so? That silence explains why the observers have reports that have de facto built the “moral” infrastructure or ground for CCC to refer to in carrying out Chamisa’s plan to make the country ungovernable.

Already, in its post-election statement, the CCC is seeking to capitalise on the mischievous SADC Observers election report, stating that, “The SADC report transparently highlighted these transgressions for the global community”

Therefore, the observer reports that seek to discredit the just held elections, have been crafted to serve as justification for any mischief Chamisa (the dira jecha schemer) may contemplate with a view to making Zimbabwe ungovernable.

Whatever is up the sleeves of the scandalous SADC Observer Mission Report is worrisome.

The observers have de facto synchronised their report with that of the EU Observer Mission.

There is clearly an underhand to create an environment of political chaos in Zimbabwe that should then be viewed as warranting some external mediation to redress it.

It cannot be ruled out that a tactic to drive Zimbabwe towards some power sharing nonsense arrangement is the discreet objective. Any such attempts should be resisted by the people of Zimbabwe.

Chamisa, given the positive development of Zimbabwe’s economy, which development is clearly irreversible, under the current election outcome, certainly has interest in being accommodated in the new Government under some arrangement.

His power hunger character gives that impression.

Why? Given his remarks that he will be in the new Government irrespective of the election result, suggests that his strategic interest is to seek any opportunity that may arise to be included in Government.

The turnaround of Zimbabwe’s economy is a development he would want to use (if included in Government) to communicate that the Zimbabwean economy’s growth is gathering momentum because of the contribution of his party in Government. It will be recalled that when the MDC -T under Tsvangirai joined Government in 2009, it misrepresented to the nation that it was responsible for the introduction of the multi-currency regime. The reality is that Zimbabwe’s economy has already been placed on an irreversible growth trajectory.

This owes to, among other factors, the achievements of a ZANU PF led Government since the year 2017.

This reality means that, a situation in which the Zimbabwean economy progresses with the involvement of Chamisa, would be damaging to ZANU-PF. It would create a public perception that it is the opposition that deserves credit for any economic growth.

Everyone who cares to observe, the ingredients for driving Zimbabwe towards an upper middle income country are now in place under the stewardship of President Mnangagwa and ZANU PF.

If Zimbabwe’s detractors, through these premeditated or manipulated election observer reports, are signalling their preparedness to shift from sanctions to overtly wrestling power from the revolutionary ZANU PF, then all patriotic Zimbabweans should prepare to resist such moves.
