FORMER Junior Sportswoman of the Year golfer, Danielle Bekker, will lead the Zimbabwe Junior Golf team at the annual All-Africa Junior Golf Challenge Trophy in Giza, Egypt, from March 21-27.

Bekker, together with Emily Jones and Margaret Nyamukondiwa, will form the girls’ team.

Ethan Kristiansen, Michael Wallace, Matthew Bramford and Matthew Campbell will be part of the boys’ team.

The 17-year-old Bekker has made strides in her career, winning top accolades like the 2018 US Kids Golf European Championships at Royal Musselburgh Golf Club in Scotland.

The Zimbabwe team claimed the runners up spot in the girls’ competition behind powerhouses, South Africa.

The trio combined for a four-round total of 686, in tough scoring conditions, with Jones outstanding, coming out as the highest-placed Zimbabwean on the individual leader-board.

Zimbabwe, who are already in camp for the upcoming Region V Games set for Namibia this coming weekend, are under the guidance of Simon Chigorimbo.

The tournament serves as the African Qualifier for the Toyota Junior Golf World Cup in Japan in June.

Twelve junior national teams will battle it out for the two available slots for the global event.

The South African boys’ and girls’ teams won last year’s event.

Zimbabwe were fifth in the boys’ category.
