The Zimbabwe netball Gems will be searching for a first win in their World Cup qualifying campaign when they clash against tournament favourites Uganda in an African Championship match at the Botswana Courts today.Smarting from a disappointing loss against hosts on Monday, Zimbabwe will need maximum points if they are to keep alive their quest for maiden appearance at the World Cup set for Sydney, Australia, next year.
They will need a brilliant performance against the talented East African side that dismissed Zambia 55-44 yesterday.
Top three finishers in the competition will join Malawi and South Africa as the continent’s representatives in Sydney.
Zimbabwe’s head coach Ledwin Dondo expects her team to record a first win of the competition.
“The girls are ready to fight after the loss to Botswana, we will start with the team that played the last quarter in that match,” she said.
“We saw them play, studied them and we hope to use that to our advantage, we discovered that they struggle against a tight marking game. They don’t like the physical game.
“We had a weakness at wing defence, so we will switch our wing attack Yvonne (Madzikangava) to the wing defence position where there was Sheila Manyatela.
Her counterpart Fred Mugerwa said they want to win all of their matches so Zimbabwe should expect a tough match.
