The country is on course to attaining Sustainable Development Goal number three, which speaks to universal health care.

This was confirmed by the Deputy Minister of Health and Child Care, Dr John Mangwiro, while speaking on various health issues, ranging from Covid-19 to monkeypox.

Dr Mangwiro reaffirmed the Government’s commitment towards ensuring equitable care services for all.

“By 2030, the Zimbabwean health system should be at a level that it can do what other nations can do, be it complicated things like transplants, be it heart transplants, be it kidney transplants.

“We should be able to make sure all preventable diseases are prevented, just like anywhere else on the globe, that is where we are marching forward to.

“Right now, we are working towards making sure that we localise most of our drug manufacturing, which is very important in the health sector.

“We are improving and building new hospitals as of now, like you saw in Southlea Park, and making sure that we continue to train people.

“We are operating nursing schools that were not operational.

“They are coming up and we are recruiting enough personnel and also making sure that health services will be available and affordable for all.”

The Government has been in talks with international pharmaceutical giants amid plans to set up local pharmaceutical plants in Harare and Victoria Falls.
