ALL is set for this year’s edition of the 2024 Zimbabwe Junior Closed Squash Championship which gets underway in the capital today.
The tournament, which was held in Bulawayo last year and involved the top-ranked players from all the provinces, ends on Sunday and is also expected to attract players from neighbouring countries like Zambia, South Africa, and Botswana.
Three venues will be used with the Under 11, 12, and 13 playing at Belgravia Sports Club, under 14,15, and 16 playing at Highlands Sports Club, and the rest at St John’s College.
Squash Rackets Association of Zimbabwe secretary-general Nishyto Monyoro expects a competitive tournament as they have an attractive prize for the winners.
“It will be a good tournament; we are expecting fireworks. We have managed to bring on board the Machinery exchange as our sponsors.
“The competition is going to be strong as we have had players, who did well in our last junior championships last month,’ said Munyoro.
Raynars brothers Bryaden and Brette will once again be expected to do well in the boys Under 19 and 16 categories.
The St Georges students will be expected to defend their titles as will be Under-19 girls’ defending champion Bella Mella from Hellenic College.
Gail Zirembwa from Peterhouse Girls is expected to stand her ground in the Under-16 girls section as the defending champion.
