ZIMBABWE’S Warriors will be out to get their first WORLD CUP/AFCON qualifier win over their namesake, the Brave Warriors of Namibia, in 16 years, when the two nations clash in South Africa next week.
Should the Warriors win the back-to-back games, they will push themselves into a very good position to qualify for the 2025 Nations Cup finals.
Cameroon and Kenya, who are the leading teams in the group, will cancel out each other in back-to-back games.
The Warriors’ last win over Namibia, in a WORLD CUP/AFCON qualifier, was on June 8, 2008, when Gilbert Mushangazhike’s double strike powered Zimbabwe to a 2-0 win at Rufaro.
Valinhos was the coach and, then as now, Kenya were also part of our group.
In the reverse fixture in Windhoek, the Brave Warriors hammered the Warriors 4-2.
The last Zimbabwean win, in the head-to-head battles, was on July 23, 2017, when the Warriors won 1-0 at the National Sports Stadium in a CHAN qualifier. Zimbabwe has won six, Namibia has won seven while one match has been drawn in their overall head-to-head record.
