WITH the Absa Premiership transfer window period coming to a close last Monday, only seven Zimbabwean players switched teams in South Africa compared to a total of 305 players that found new homes.
As reported by Kick.Off.com 305 players in the Absa Premiership completed deals with the 16 clubs during the transfer window period that shut on 2 September.
Of those,174 of the players are foreigners.
Only four Zimbabwean players – Elvis Moyo, Kelvin Moyo, Gabriel Nyoni and Clive Augusto – managed to break into the South African top-flight football league.
The other three players – Cuthbert Malajila, Kudakwashe Mahachi and Edmore Sibanda switched from one team to the other in the same league.
Twins Elvis and Kelvin were snapped by Chippa United from FC Platinum with Nyoni joining Maritzburg United from Caps United while Clive Augusto also followed suit to the team, leaving Chicken Inn where he had scored 13 goals.
Veteran striker Malajila was offloaded by South African giants Mamelodi Sundowns and opted to settle in Limpopo Province with Black Leopards.
Goalkeeper Edmore Sibanda switched his Golden Arrows gloves for Witbank Spurs – a team that plays in the South African second tier, the National First Division (NFD).
Mahachi left Soweto giants Orlando Pirates and made his way to the country’s capital city, Pretoria, to join SuperSport United.
He revealed that the move was motivated by a need for more game time at SuperSport United, which he felt he was not getting at Orlando Pirates.
