Titan Law Zimbabwe Polo team captain Gareth Meikle believes there has been a gradual improvement by his charges after they were crowned this year’s Cell Inada Africa Cup Champions in South Africa last week.
Titan Law Zimbabwe were 6-3 victors over Kego Mining South Africa.
“It is a good feeling. After finishing runners-up at last year’s tournament, we managed to win this year’s edition.
“In terms of members, we are the smallest and I think what made us win this year’s edition was the experience and learning from our previous mistakes in last year’s finals.
“I’m happy that we are improving with each passing year,” said the Zimbabwe Polo captain.
He added that the other four countries – hosts South Africa, Ghana, Angola and Zambia – had given them a good run for their money.
“It was a good tournament, all the teams showed great potential. We are not going to stop training so that we can defend the title next year,” said Meikle.
Titan Law Zimbabwe were thrust upfront in the first chukka when Meikle scored his first penalty before Kego Mining South Africa levelled the scores in the second chukka, with Zimbabwe cutting the margin to 1- 5 at half time.
An in-form Meikle had to score a late penalty in the final chukka to ensure last year’s runners-up clinched the Africa Cup title. Their last victory was in 2017.
The Africa Cup success came on the backdrop of a 2-1 series triumph on home soil in the series against Kenya.
Zimbabwe booked a place in the final after they had proved too strong for Ghana and Angola.
This was Zimbabwe’s third final place in as many years.
Zimbabwe’s veteran Smart Kuuswa marked his fourth finals appearance while team captain Meikle took his finals appearances to three.
