Zim prison services win 23 medals at Sadc games

THE Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Services won 23 medals at the Sadc Prisons, Penitentiary, Correctional Services Sports and Cultural Exchange Games in Botswana.

Nine countries took part in the Games.

The team won 11 gold medals with eight coming from athletics, one from netball, football and volleyball while five silver medals came from athletics and one from tug of-war.

There were seven bronze medals, six from athletics, and one from volleyball.

Team captain Isaac Pitamuja said they were rewarded for their hard work.

“There was an improved performance compared to the 2006 Games held in Durban,” said Pitamuja.

Athletics coach, Collin Makaza, hailed their preparations.

“We had adequate preparations and that helped us a lot and we will continue to work hard.”
