Zim processed food exports jump 17%

ZIMBABWE’S processed food exports are on the increase having recorded a 17 percent jump in 2020 alone, the country’s trade development and promotion agency, ZimTrade, has said.

“Processed Foods (PF) exports have been increasing gradually. Last year alone exports of PF grew by 17 percent, said the agency.

“This is indicative of the potential that the sector has.”

The processed food sector plays a critical role in the overall growth of the Zimbabwean economy. It is one sector that has seen steady growth in exports over the past few years, recording a 17.96 percent growth, from US$98 million in 2019 to US$115 million in 2020, according to Zimstat.

In 2018, the sector recorded US$71.2 million in exports.
