A 12-year-old Quality Junior School pupil is riding on the crest of the wave after coming tops in the four-day Pan-Africa Debate and Public Speaking that ended last Tuesday in Nairobi, Kenya.
Panganai Munemutsa was the toast of the jamboree as she charmed adjudicators with her flawless coherence and thoroughness in presenting facts.
Quality Junior School entered eight students into the prestigious competition that had over 68 other learners drawn from across the continent.
They all gave a good account of themselves with Munemutsa, Yeukai Zifamba and Sharmaine Gore all cruising into the top 10.
It was Munemutsa who proved to be the smartest in the finale as she left everyone in awe with her diction and sense.
In an interview, Munemutsa who just came from Kenya said the experience and cultural exchange was awesome.
“The experience was awesome. I learnt a lot from other kids. The aim is for me to be a better version for other kids.”
Chiedza Mushipe, Theophilus Shenje, Chanice Paringira, Sasha Kabozo and Takunda Nyikadzino are part of the team that went for the competition alongside Munyangamira as their chaperon.
The pupils also won in debate when they participated in Beira, Mozambique in August.
Director and founder of the school Dr Maria Mafunga-Kimu, said the students represented Zimbabwe very well.
“This is good for the school, the students represented Zimbabwe very well and made us proud.”
“Sharmaine Gore did well in storytelling. Our school gives comprehensive education, including the ability to speak, public speaking is a course here.” “It’s like learning to swim. It is a life skill,” she said.
“We are pleased to announce that eight of our students travelled to Nairobi Kenya for the PriDC Debate and Public Speaking Competitions on Friday 22 November 2024 to represent Zimbabwe and one of them is a winner.
“English is our medium of communication at the school so we are not worried about their ability to express themselves they express themselves well and they were prepared well.”
