Zim schools for SA?soccer tourney

Mashonaland West, are expected to fly the country’s flag high in the schools’ football fiesta that kicked off in South Africa yesterday.
The tournament is arguably one of the biggest schools soccer competitions in the region.
Prince Edward and Cornway reached the quarter-finals last year.
Cornway coach, Wilex Chisvo, was upbeat about his side’s chances ahead of the tournament.
“We have kept the core of the team from last year and have been in camp for a fortnight preparing for this tour.
“In fact, we have learnt our lessons from last year and so we will be poised to do well,” he said.
St. George’s are returning to the tournament after taking a sabbatical last year and Sodbury will be making their maiden appearance.
Sodbury coach. Justin Mugeza, unsure of the challenges he will face, was rather cautious before the team’s departure.
The former Arcadia United and Grain Tigers winger said these were entering virgin territory.
“We have lost most of the players from last year and we are building a new side,” he said.
Sodbury won the Mazengwe Trophy and they also have the Zimbabwe Academy Championships Trophy in their cabinet from last year.
The Benoni Tournament has produced some prominent players like Bafana Bafana stars Rowan Fernandez and Bradley Grobler.
Zimbabwe the Under-23 captain and FC Platinum wingback, Qadr Amin, also starred at the tournament in Prince Edward colours in 2008.
