Serbia is committed to enhancing its bilateral relations with Zimbabwe, particularly in investments and trade, according to the country’s Ambassador to Zimbabwe, Mr Radisa Grujic.
Speaking on the occasion of Serbian Statehood Day commemorated on Saturday, Ambassador Grujic expressed his dedication to improving ties between the two nations to bolster their economies.
He highlighted the significant potential for future economic cooperation, emphasising the need to increase trade volumes between the two countries.
“There are a lot of other important areas to be taken into consideration such as education, sports, scientific and technological development, energy and mining, infrastructure and IT, culture and art, as well as health and pharmaceuticals,” he said.
On education, Ambassador Grujic noted Serbia’s strong commitment to investing in the sector at both national and international levels.
“Following this commitment, we initiated in 2012 the Government scholarship project titled ‘World in Serbia,’ under which we are providing scholarships for students from countries that are members of the Non-Aligned Movement,” he said.
This initiative has benefited several Zimbabwean students presently studying in Serbia.
Amb Grujic believes Zimbabwe is poised to become an economic hub in the Southern African region due to its abundant natural resources, particularly minerals, and its successes in agriculture which include surpassing wheat production targets.
