ZIMBABWE’S junior swimmers signed off from the Zone IV Swimming Championships with a 17-medal haul on the final day of competition in Gaborone, Botswana, on Saturday.
The young swimmers collected five gold, eight silver and four bronze medals. Cameroon Wade, Alexis Johnsen, Tanatswa Chakandiwana, Ruvarashe Mukungunurwa and Kaylea Rogers won Zimbabwe’s five gold medals.
Wade won the 50m freestyle, while Johnsen and Chakandiwana also took gold in the same event in their respective age groups.
Mukungunurwa won the 200m butterfly, with Rogers taking gold in the 100m freestyle.
Several swimmers returned to the podium in other events, with Johnsen adding silver in the 100m freestyle. Wade, Jwes Jared and Rogers also collected silver medals in their respective age groups, while Jude Moss, Jamelia Madonko, Daniella Viki and Amarathine Dunkley were among Zimbabwe’s other medallists.
Zimbabwe also added medals in the team events, with both the girls’ and boys’ 14-and-under freestyle relay teams reaching the podium on the final day. —Agencies.
