Zim to host Fifa Com-Unity seminar

of the sport to stakeholders and the community.
The four-day event to be organised by Zifa and funded by Fifa would be held in the capital from November 1- 4 as the world soccer governing body would impart knowledge on how to unlock value in girl child sport.

The seminar is meant to raise awareness to key partners as well as help in developing competitive teams, which will do well in Fifa tournaments.
Florie Ramogodi, from the Fifa development office in Gaborone, Botswana, is currently in the country for an inspection and has been meeting with Zifa, stakeholders assessing how far they have gone in setting up structures for the high profile seminar.

“I have been here since Monday for inspection prior to the community seminar which is communication and unity.
“Fifa would be coming to run the seminar which will bring stakeholders on board.
“The seminar is used as a platform to launch on what we would be focusing on that time and this time it is women’s football.

“It is mainly used to launch but women’s football in Zimbabwe is already running and this will promote women’s football further and promote Fifa projects such as the Under-17 and Under-20 and develop women’s football building strong teams to participate in Fifa tournaments,” said Ramogodi.
The Botswana-based officer said they are hoping to reach out to all the key stakeholders involved in girl child sport.

“It is meant to attract government, businesspeople, media and the public at large as well as parents whom we feel are also stakeholders.
“Fifa is merely coming to strengthen existing relations with the media and hopefully it would help to bring World Cup to Africa.
“Together with Zifa we are expecting to have 150 participants and it is not a seminar where Fifa would come and dictate but we will interact with everyone and at the end of day there are supposed to

be resolutions,” said Ramogodi.
The seminar, which is highly interactive, will have presenters from Fifa, local organisations and the media.

Some of the topics, which would be dissected, would be the development of women’s football.
Here they would look at areas such as the current status and potential of women’s football.

The strategy and development, grassroots football development programmes and national teams, coaches, players and referees will also be discussed. The seminar will also touch on women’s football and the media.

And topics to be discussed here would be the role of media in women’s football and creating a positive image of the women’s game.
Need for the media to promote women’s football through their channels and communication strategy.

The Fifa seminar participants would also discuss promotion and marketing where they look at topics like working with the sponsors, women’s football as a product, the benefits and marketing strategy.

The workshop will wind up with a girl’s festival, which will see Under-15 participating in small-sided football matches creating awareness to all the stakeholders that have been attending the seminar for the past three days.
The programme, which has begun to be rolled in Africa, will start with Malawi and Tanzania next month while Zambia and Zimbabwe would host it in November.
It will continue to be rolled out until next year to associations, which would have, applied to Fifa to come and help them.
