Zim tour to provide experience for England series: Younis

PAKISTAN cricket coach Waqar Younis has said their upcoming tour of Zimbabwe will provide his side with the much needed experience so they can perform better as a unit in the series against England, which starts from October 13 in the United Arab Emirates. Reacting to the exclusion of Anwar Ali from the T20 squad, the 43-year-old said the all-rounder had suffered from injury and, therefore, could not be risked, the Express Tribune reported.

Waqar revealed that Pakistan had brought in some new faces for Zimbabwe that would feature in England as well, adding that the top performers of domestic cricket might also be called to play against England.

Meanwhile, Waqar also lauded new appointment Imran Khan saying he looked really impressive with his variations making him different. Pakistan will play two T20 Internationals and three one-day internationals against Zimbabwe in Harare from September 27 before the England series. Waqar was confident Pakistan can beat England in the upcoming three-match Test series. The former captain also indicated that Pakistan would rely heavily on their spinners to test the English batsmen.

“More than the limited over series in Zimbabwe, we’re totally focused on the Test matches against England. It’s a very important series for us and I just want the team to repeat the form they showed against Australia and New Zealand last year,” Waqar said. — Cricket Country
