ZIMBABWE women’s bowls team beat Kenya and Botswana as they got their campaign at the Africa States to a flying start at Windhoek Country Club yesterday. The Zimbabweans destroyed Kenya 45-5. The Zimbabwe pairs team of Jane Rigby and Mel James then beat Botswana’s Pauline Lekone and Tirelo Buckley 15-8 in the afternoon.
Zimbabwe’s team manager, Trish Davies, was thrilled by the team’s performance.
“The ladies played well, we are happy with their performance but we still have other matches to play,” said Davies.
In the Trips, Zimbabwe beat Kenya 15-11 during before also defeating Botswana.
Zambia’s pairs team of Foster Banda and Matimba Like beat hosts Namibia 24-17 in their second match after having lost 9-20 to South Africa in the morning.
Zambia’s pairs skip Foster Banda believes they have a good chance to succeed.
“We enjoyed the first games, we lost to South Africa in our first game but in our afternoon match against Namibia we did some great work.
“We started on a lower note in our first two ends and we were 7-0 behind but we picked up in the third end with three points and then after started bowling well and got points – one after another.
“We still have three more games before we start playing the Fours and the Singles but we are aiming at winning all our remaining matches,” said Banda.
The South African pairs were having a good day at the greens yesterday as they also beat Kenya 30-9.
Then their trips crew of Susan Nel, Nicolene Neal and Sylvia Burns beat Zambia’s Everlyn Mpepesa, Eddah Mpezeni and Sophia Matipa 21-12 in their first match.
They then beat Kenya 30-12.
In the men’s section, Zambia pairs team of Christie Kapata and Harry Musonda destroyed Malawi 47-6.
