ZIMBABWE’S Under-17s are still breathing in the COSAFA Championship after a tense 0-0 draw with Eswatini kept their faint Morocco 2025 dream alive.
Coach Thulani Sibanda says the Young Warriors can still turn the Maths in their favour if they finish strong against Comoros. Yesterday’s stalemate at a packed Ngoni Stadium in Norton, following a 1-0 opening loss to Mozambique, left Zimbabwe bottom of Group A with one point.
Comoros and Mozambique top the pool with four points each, and only the three group winners and the best runner-up reach the semi-finals and next year’s CAF U-17 Africa Cup of Nations.
“It’s a game that we should have won. We dominated play. We created chances. There wasn’t much that Eswatini was doing in terms of their attack,” Sibanda said.
“Maybe the boys were playing more to the gallery than showing maturity to just finish up. But we still have to believe. It’s good that the other match in the afternoon also ended in a draw.
“So, anything is possible. We can end on four points.
“We can have everybody ending on four and maybe the goal difference coming into effect. We just have to continue to believe, but it’s a game that we should have won.”
Sibanda lamented missed opportunities and underperforming key players. He urged his side to come out firing in the decider. — Zimpapers Sports Hub
