Zim U19 lose ODI series to Bangladesh

BANGLADESH Under-19 won the third Youth one-day international match against their Zimbabwe counterparts by seven wickets with 205 balls to spare to lead the four-match series 3-0.

The hosts dismissed Zimbabwe for 84 runs in 40.5 overs after Blessing Mavuta won the toss and opted to bat at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chittagong on Saturday. Bangladesh easily overhauled Zimbabwe’s paltry 84 runs in 15.5 overs.

Bangladesh will now be looking to emulate what their senior team did over Zimbabwe in their ODI matches and complete a series sweep with victory in the fourth and final Youth ODI at the same venue today.

Zimbabwe Under-19 will need their batsmen to turn up for their innings if they are to get any consolation.

Their wickets kept falling at regular intervals, which made it impossible to build any meaningful partnerships to anchor the innings on.

Opener Shaun Snyder (3) was the first to go, leaving it one wicket for nine runs, which soon became two for 12 when number three Taufail Zaheer (0) followed.

Jeremy Ives tried to make a game of it with number four Ryan Murray before the opener was bowled by Saeed Sarkar in the 14th over. He had made 22 runs off 43 balls, which included two fours.

That was as good as it got for Zimbabwe because other than Murray, who made 12 and William Mashinge (17), no one thereafter scored double figures.

Mashinge looked like he would continue with his good form on this tour, but was trapped leg before wicket by Ariful Islam, who also accounted for the last three Zimbabwe wickets of Mavuta, Kundai Matigimu and Rugare Magarira to finish with figures of four for 18 runs in 9.5 overs.

Zakira Hasan with a 33-ball 27 and Nazmul Hossain Shanto with an unbeaten 21 runs off 20 balls led the Bangladesh Under-19 reply. Mehedi Hasan Miraz (1) was also at the crease when Shanto hit Matigimu for four to clinch victory and with it the Youth ODI series.

Matigimu picked up one wicket for 21 runs in 4.5 overs and Mavuta one for 26 in six overs for the Zimbabwe attack.

Zimbabwe Under-19 — 84 all out in 40.5 overs (Jeremy Ives 22; Ariful Islam 4/18, Sanjit Saha 2/14)

Bangladesh Under-19 — 85 for 3 in 15.5 overs (Zakir Hasan 27; Kundai Matigimu 1/21, Blessing Mavuta 1/26) — Cricinfo
