THE Zimbabwe senior men’s volleyball team will tomorrow commence their World Championship Zonal qualifiers campaign here at the Institute of Health Sciences.
The team arrived here yesterday morning after travelling by road and will have their first training session today as business begins at this tournament.
A draw will be conducted tonight and Artwell Gororo’s lads should prepare to clash against Zambia, Namibia, Mozambique, Lesotho and the hosts Botswana in battles that will elevate the top two finishers to the Continental stage which is the final qualification phase for a place in Poland early next year.
Prior to their departure Gororo was pessimistic due to poor preparations that saw them train for two days.
The Zimbabwe volleyball governing body cited financial challenges for the sub-standard preparations, but all that is history and the team should deal with what is at hand. They will meet up with Botswana-based Bruce Mpofu, who plays for Mafolofolo, Simbarashe “Vital” Chidziwa, who is coming from signing a deal with Swaziland’s Sunrise Correctional Services, and also Mthabis Ndlovu and Tawanda Mafuva, who study and play in South Africa.
Zimbabwe came second to Zambia in the sub-zonal qualifiers played in Malawi in July and for these matches they welcome the experince of Railstars player Contrade Kupara.
