THE Zimbabwe Volleyball Association have named a provisional squad for the upcoming CAVB Zone VI nations Championship which the country will host next month.
Zimbabwe will for the first time in over a decade host the prestigious event at City Sports Centre with more than 10 countries expected to turn up. Speaking at the unveiling ceremony ZVA president Mxolisi Ndlovu said they are happy to be staging the high profile tournament in which they hope the host teams will also do well.
“As an association registered with the sports commission and a member of FIVB an affiliate of CAVB and CAVB Zone Xix Federation we are happy to announce that we will be hosting the 2023 CAVB Zone VI Nations Championships.
“We are expecting more than ten men’s teams and the same number of women’s national teams for the competition to be held over ten days.
“The selection committee have so far named some provisional squads for the tournament with 20 players for each teams and the numbers will be reduced to 14,” said Ndlovu.
ZVA also said they are happy that they have been making strides in taking part in some junior tournaments which has seen the sport continuing to grow.
“We are happy that we have been doing well at club level where both our men and women teams have managed to do well. Support Unit are currently the winners of the international club women and all our representatives have had some podium finishes in the past few years.
“There is development as our junior teams are always involved in Zone VI games so we are happy that we are now having game time for the national team”.
