Zim wins bronze at Africa States bowls

ZIMBABWE bowlers came back home yesterday with their heads held high as both men and women clinched bronze medals in a series of absolute brilliance at Africa States Bowls tournament which was held in Windhoek, Namibia. Zimbabwe were awarded bronze in the men’s overall and women’s overall after they displaying their bowls talent in the entire stiff tournament. The men’s team won bronze in all the bowling discipline.

The South African teams demonstrated that they had strong bowls squads when they clinched the gold medal in the Pairs and Triples although their Pairs team suffered a defeat against Zimbabwe.

The Zimbabwean Pairs which was represented by Roy Garden and Mike Eaton was the only team which proved to be too strong for South Africa.

Eaton and Garden broke the recorded when they defeated South African pairs of Robert Donnelly and Rudi Jacobs because they were too good and won all their matches convincingly.

But the Zimbabwean Pair were too good for the winners South Africa and they beautifully defeated them 21-12 in the match were Garden and Eaton gave their best shots giving the fans at the Eros Bowling Club exactly what they came to see.

In the men’s Fours, South Africa won gold with 10 points, with Namibia winning silver on 8 points and Zimbabwe bronze on 6 points.
In the  Singles both Namibia and arch rivals South Africa went into the last game equal on points. Both nations displayed world class bowls.
