ZIFA have directed that elections be held in October for a substantive Zimbabwe Women Football executive that has not had a substantive leader since the suspension of Miriam Sibanda in April last year. Elections will be held in Harare on October 22. Sibanda was suspended together with board members Ben Mamoshe and Edwin Magosvongwe. “It is the considered view that Zifa ensures an elaborate women soccer development programme that will see the girl child receive proper and due support. Women football is forever under contestation and in order to bring an end to power contestations, I have decided that elections be held in October 2016.
‘‘There are forces that have been causing mayhem in and around women football before and after I took office,” said Zifa president Philip Chiyangwa.
The Zifa boss ordered all women football clubs to be registered before the end of this month as he moves to regularise women football in the country.
“Upon registration, each club will go through vetting in order to ensure officials are in office before next month.
Zifa will publish registered clubs, followed by the announcement for Women Premier League and first division elections both of which will require chairpersons who will be approved by congress and will be eligible for a seat on the Zifa council,” said Chiyangwa in a statement.
Elizabeth Langa is the acting chairperson of Zimbabwe Women Football and is deputised by Cecilia Gambe.
