In a quest to come up with a world class award ceremony, organisers of the Zimbabwe Music Awards have roped in the services of a local company, Freecomad. Last year Zima organisers promised a world class event after engaging CEP, a South African company but the partnership turned nasty after a misunderstanding over monetary issues which affected the event.
In an interview with The Herald Entertainment, Zima Spokesperson Farai Chapoterera said they are optimistic that this year’s awards ceremony will be bigger and better since they will be working with a local company that has a record of organising world class events.
“We made our mistakes and we are working on our corrections and what happened in 2014, I can say, was a learning phase for us and this year we are promising a bigger and better awards ceremony.
“We have engaged the services of Freecomad and I can safely say we are going to have it, a world class event,” he said.
On the other hand Freecomad chief executive officer Freedom Maziriri promised a glamorous event.
“This is not our first time to organise a world class event, I cannot say all the events that we have done before but I can give an example of the launch of the Emirates that was held at the same venue, the Harare International Conference Centre, those who were there can testify how the venue looked like. Anything is possible, we will do it,” he said.
Meanwhile, addressing a press conference yesterday, Zima chairman Joseph Nyadzayo elaborated on this year’s theme which is “Celebrating our Leaders Through Music”, saying they have decided to celebrate the life of President Mugabe.
“Many a times people celebrate the lives of people when they are not there, and also many times great people are celebrated in foreign lands so we have decided to celebrated our own hero, the President of Zimbabwe through music. Music is the best way of celebrating anything,” he said.
Nyadzayo also took the opportunity to hand over gongs to Cythia Mare who failed to turn up for the handover ceremony last week due to other commitments.
