DESPITE a stubborn innings of 23 from Luke Jongwe, Zimbabwe A went down by an innings and 41 runs to Pakistan Shaheens at Mutare Sports Club on Saturday.
The hosts began the day on 238 for seven wickets, with Jongwe on nine and Brandon Mavuta on five, their last three wickets needing to score another 78 runs to avoid an innings defeat.
Only one run had been added before Mavuta fell, bowled out by Mohammad Ali for six.
Tanaka Chivanga came in next and decided to hit, smashing three fours off the first eight balls he received.
However, he then seemed to lose his strokes, and then his wicket, as he was caught off the pace bowler Shahnawaz Dahani for 14 — 270 for nine.
Victor Nyauchi joined Jongwe, who hit a four and a single, but in Dahani’s next over he edged a catch to the wicketkeeper, Haseebullah Khan, and the match was over.
Jongwe’s 23 came off 78 balls in over two hours, and he hit three fours.
Ali, with three wickets for 49 runs, was the most successful bowler of the innings.
