THE fifth Zimbabwe Agricultural Media Awards (ZAMA) will be held on August 28 at the Zimbabwe Agriculture Society in Harare.

This year’s event, hosted by Mejrkh Communications and Media Advisory in partnership with the Zimbabwe Agricultural Society (ZAS), will be running under the theme, “Sewing stories, reaping impact: Honouring the best in agriculture reporting.”

In a statement issued yesterday, Mejrkh Communications and Media Advisory communications director, Mr Kudakwashe Mhiripiri, said 122 submissions have been received across nine categories.

“We are excited by the response from journalists across the country. This is the highest number of entries we have received since the inception of the awards,” said Mr Mhiripiri.

“It reflects not only the vibrancy of agricultural reporting in Zimbabwe but also the value journalists place on these awards.”

The awards seek to recognise and reward outstanding journalism in the agricultural sector.

Among the categories, Sustainable Agriculture and Climate Change attracted the highest number of submissions, with 33 entries.

The Cotton Sector, on the other hand, drew the least interest, garnering only six entries.

“These numbers show us where the spotlight is in terms of public interest and reporting trends,” said Mr Mhiripiri.

“There’s growing attention to sustainable farming and the impact of climate change, which is encouraging.”

The adjudication team, made up of seasoned media professionals and agriculture experts, is scheduled to begin evaluating entries in the second week of August.

“We are expecting a highly competitive selection process. The quality of submissions has been improving year after year, and 2025 is no exception.”
