THE Minister of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services, Dr Zhemu Soda on Monday held high-level talks with China’s Minister of the National Radio and Television Administration, Cao Shumin in Beijing marking a significant step in strengthening bilateral ties between the two nations.
The two ministers deliberated on a wide range of possible areas of cooperation aimed at modernising the information and communication sectors of both countries.
Content development and exchange, technology transfer and professional training were particularly topical.
Dr Soda, who is on a working visit to the Asian powerhouse leading a delegation of more than 20 journalists from Zimbabwe, expressed Zimbabwe’s gratitude for the existing partnership between the two countries.
He noted that Zimbabwe has benefited from a significant volume of high-quality media content from China, which has contributed to strengthening public information dissemination and cultural exchange.
However, the Minister stressed that there remains scope to broaden cooperation, particularly in co-production and technology transfer, to continuously modernise Zimbabwe’s media landscape.
On her part, Chinese Minister Cao Shumin spoke of her country’s vast experience in content production and international co-productions, expressing readiness to share expertise with Zimbabwe.
The increased cooperation between Chinese and Zimbabwean media houses is expected to further strengthen existing people-to-people relations between the two sister countries.
Addressing journalists here last week, Dr Soda outlined vast investment opportunities in the media sector, adding that to achieve the vision, Zimbabwe is actively seeking strategic partnerships to modernise key infrastructure.
“We are committed to expanding national signal coverage from 81 percent to 100 percent by 2030. This provides a vast opening for partners to invest in transmission networks and signal distribution.”
“Our focus is on total transformation of studios from analogue to digital technologies.
“Opportunities exist for the supply and installation of state-of-the-art television and radio studio equipment, integrated playout centres, and media asset management systems.”
