Zimbabwe College of Professional Studies in Bulawayo continues to blaze the academic trail in the province after it acquired a 100% pass rate in the 2023 ‘A’ level final examinations.
The College which was founded in 1994 by educationist, Mr George Mafirakurewa recorded a 100% pass rate in the Zimsec A-level examinations and was among the best performers. Students from the college shattered the myth that nothing good comes from private college students. Among the students are Ottilia Nodumo Ngwenya who scored 14 points and Kudzaishe Vutoi who scored 13 points.
Ngwenya (18) who did well in three commercial subjects, credited her success to her father who she said played a big role in her academic success.
“My dad was always helpful as he gave me a study guide and I used to follow that, he told me to work ahead of teachers so that when I have confusion with a certain topic I can always consult with my teacher. With the help of that study guide, I have acquired 14 points. Five points in Accounts, five points in Economics and four points in Business Studies. I am now hoping that I will be able to fulfil my dream of studying Engineering in Germany,” she said.
As for Kudzaishe Vutoi (20), who scored 13 points in his three arts subjects, his dream of becoming a lawyer is becoming a reality.
“My results came as a shock to me because the exams were difficult, but all thanks to my family, teachers and classmates who supported me. I managed to score 13 points. Five points in Literature in English, five points in History and three points in Sociology Studies,” he said.
Vutoi said the teachers in her school played a big role in his studies.
“The teachers genuinely love their job and they work very hard as they make sure that you learn and grasp what you are taught. Students also respect each other despite their level, we are like a family here and if I could, I would come back. My advice to other students is to take in the wisdom that you learn from your classmates. Do not look down upon other students because you never know what that other student might teach you. Read, focus and concentrate, that way you can never go wrong,” he said.
Principal for Zimbabwe College of Professional Studies Miss Laina Mujachi said: “I am elated by the solid performance of students who sat for their A-level final examinations at the institution.
“We attained a 100% pass rate. Our students worked hard and lifted our Zimbabwe College flag high. People tend to shun private colleges and think that nothing good will come out of us, but our students proved them wrong by producing very good results,” she said.
Miss Mujachi said she was hoping that the trend would continue and urged prospective students to come forward and register for the 2024 classes.
“We also provide professional courses like Cosmetology (Beauty Therapy and Hairdressing), Hotel and Catering, Travel and Tourism, Office Management and many other courses. Come and register with us at Zimbabwe College where skill is stronger than strength.”
