Zimbabwe Cricket (ZC) has named a 16-player women’s squad for the six-match limited-overs series against West Indies Women, with Josephine Nkomo appointed captain for the tour.
The series comprises three One-Day Internationals (ODIs), which form part of the ICC Women’s Championship, followed by three Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is).
The ODI matches will be played at Harare Sports Club on September 24, 27 and 30, before the teams move to Takashinga Cricket Club for the T20I fixtures on October 3, 5 and 7.
ZC has retained much of the squad that featured in the recently concluded five-match T20I series against South Africa Women in Bulawayo.
Experienced players Nomvelo Sibanda, Chipo Mugeri-Tiripano, Modester Mupachikwa and Sharne Mayers are among those retained.
Loreen Tshuma misses the series through injury, while Lorraine Pemhiwa and Lindokuhle Mabhera have been left out.
Their places have gone to Chiedza Dhururu and Olinder Chare.
Kudzai Chigora has been selected for the ODI matches only, while Francisca Chipare will be available exclusively for the T20I leg.
The West Indies series comes after a busy international programme for Zimbabwe, who have already travelled to New Zealand and Pakistan for ICC Women’s Championship assignments before hosting South Africa in Bulawayo.
The six-match series will provide Zimbabwe with further international competition as the team continues its campaign in the 50-over format and preparations in T20 cricket.
