Zimbabwe has reaffirmed its commitment to advancing gender equality and women’s empowerment through robust national mechanisms and innovative initiatives.
Women Affairs, Community, Small, and Medium Enterprises Development Minister Monica Mutsvangwa said this during her address at the 69th Session of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW 69) Ministerial Round Table in New York.
She highlighted the importance of high-level discussions under the theme “National Mechanisms for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women and Girls”.
Minister Mutsvangwa said strengthening gender equality has always been a priority for Zimbabwe, with a notable increase in women’s participation in decision-making processes.
“The Zimbabwe Micro-Finance Bank (ZWMB), a financial institution specifically established to promote women’s financial inclusion, has been instrumental in this regard,” she said.
“Women’s desks have also been established across commercial banking institutions to enhance women’s access to essential financial services, support, and resources tailored to their needs.”
The minister applauded Zimbabwe’s commitment to the Beijing Platform for Action, noting that it provides valuable lessons for the global community as it aligns with the goals of Agenda 2030.
“Zimbabwe remains steadfast in its pursuit of gender equality and women’s empowerment,” she said.
“We have strong coordination with civil society organisations in the formulation, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of policies, strategies and action plans, and we support them in playing their advocacy role,” she said.
The Round Table provided a platform for Zimbabwe to share its best practices and lessons learned, reinforcing its role as a leader in advancing gender equality on the global stage.
